ITHACA NY FEBRUARY 1, 2017 — Downtown Ithaca, in partnership with the Community Arts Partnership (CAP), announces the participating artists and locations for February’s Gallery Night.
This walkable tour set from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3 could be just the place this year to find a Valentine’s Day gift for your loved one(s), or something delightful for yourself.
Guests will feel the love when they visit Julie Knittel’s exhibit at Handwork, 102, W. State St. Her intricately beaded jewelry pieces are an item that is sure to swoon your Valentine.

Knittel uses a variety of materials such as Japanese seed beads, semi precious stones, Swarovski crystals, and mother of pearl to create her work. Guests will be able to watch her demonstrate the process behind an ‘xoxo’ bracelet, double zig-zag bracelet, and a beaded choker necklace with ribbon. Finished pieces will be available for purchase. Snacks and hot cocoa will be provided during the event.
Red is often associated with Valentine’s Day and it is certainly relevant in Pamela Drix’s new “Red and Black Series” that features color woodcuts with more inclusions of sewn elements, sculptural constructions and original wood matrices. This series, which explores the margins, reframing the idea of beauty in the context of cultural fragments, will be on display at CAP ArtSpace, 171 E. State St., in Center Ithaca.
Take your sweetheart to view Elizabeth McMahon’s exhibit Magic Portions and they may feel like they are placed under a loving spell. This special exhibit, which will be on display at Decorum-Too, 215 N. Cayuga St., is different from McMahon’s classic bright and bold paintings. For Magic Portions, McMahon uses monotype, a one-of-a-kind form of printmaking. Like a gust of wind, these prints capture the color and exuberance of nature.
Say “cheers” to other guests as you stroll through the Ithaca Beer Co.: The Spirit of the Finger Lakes exhibit that will be on display in conjunction with the current “Made in Tompkins County: A Timeline of Local Enterprise” exhibit at The History Center of Tompkins County, 401 E. State St.
As part of the display, Ithaca Beer and soda tastings will be available at the History Center at 5:30 p.m. Then, at 6:30 p.m., Ithaca Beer’s Marketing Director Gregg Stacy will talk about the history and current initiatives of the company.
Gallery Night attendees are also encouraged to visit the other participating locations: Community School of Music and Arts, and The Ink Shop, both at 330 E. State St.; The Studio, Ithaca College and Breathe, both at 171 E. State St. (Center Ithaca); Cellar d’Or, 136 E. State St.; State of the Art Gallery, 120 W. State St.; Sacred Root Kava Lounge and Tea Bar, 103 S. Geneva St.; The Rook, 404 W. State St.; Kitchen Theatre, 417 W. State St.; Lot 10, 106 S. Cayuga St.; Sunny Days of Ithaca, 123 N.
