Afternoon event features a parade, trick-or-treating, face painting and more
The Downtown Ithaca Alliance is teaming up once again with the Greater Ithaca Activities Center (GIAC) to proudly present it annual Halloween in Downtown Ithaca activities to be held next weekend at various sites in downtown Ithaca.
This family-friendly Halloween festivity, which will include the community’s beloved costume parade and store-to-store Trick-or-Treating, will run from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28.
The parade will start from the GIAC, 301 W. Court St., Ithaca, at 3:30 p.m and will then march its way onto The Commons, E. State Street, Ithaca. As parade goers make their way to The Commons pedestrian mall they will find dozens of stores participating in the all sorts of spooktacular activities (look for a “Trick-or-Treat Here” sign prominently displayed in their storefront window indicating that treats are available). Participating stores are located on the Commons, Aurora Street, East State Street off the Commons, Gateway Commons, Cayuga Street, Green St. and inside the Dewitt Mall.
This afternoon of innocent and fun frolic will also feature FREE face painting by Festive Face Painting, music, mini carnival-style games, warm apple cider and snacks from 4 to 6 p.m. inside Center Ithaca, 171 E. State St., Ithaca.

Also, on Friday, Oct. 28, from 4 to 6 p.m., Greenstar Natural Foods Market, 701 W. Buffalo St., is hosting a special Halloween-themed activity. The health food store will be hosting its annual youth Trick-or-Treat where healthy snacks and treats will be served. The West End store will feature a continual showing of “It’s a Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.” For more information, call the store at (607) 273-9392.
From October 27 through October 31, downtown Ithaca’s streets will be filled magic and whimsy as visitors, residents, and students partake in the second annual Wizarding Weekend.
As a nonprofit event, Ithaca’s Wizarding Weekend is inspired by the Harry Potter series created by J.K. Rowling and provides a magical look into the Ithaca community while simultaneously allowing fans to celebrate.
Wizarding Weekend is being organized by Life’s So Sweet Chocolates and Press Bay Alley. More information can be found at wizardingweekend.com.
