On Thursday, May 15, 2014, the Downtown Ithaca Alliance and City of Ithaca Mayor Svante Myrick will be holding ribbon cutting ceremonies for two new businesses in downtown Ithaca.
At 4:00 PM, there will be a ribbon cutting for Fibers in the Dewitt Mall (215 North Cayuga Street, across from Moosewood Restaurant). Connie Shipos and Joan Reuning, formerly of Fibers & Fantasy in the Triphammer Mall, have created a beautiful new downtown boutique showcasing their own clothing designs as well as those of four other selected designers: Cupcake, Art of Cloth, Citron, and Hats by Janet Haskell. Reuning and Shipos are offering custom design services, working with customers to create one-of-a-kind tops or jackets from fabrics they select or provide. They will also soon be offering locally-made jewelry by Janet Fortess. Learn more at fibersboutique.com.
At 4:15 PM, there will be a ribbon cutting for Uncorked Creations at (102 North Tioga Street, second floor above American Crafts by Robbie Dein). At Uncorked Creations, owned and operated by Alise Pierson, a local artist will guide classes with easy to follow, step-by-step instructions on how to create a featured piece for participants to take home. Regularly scheduled adult classes start at $35 and include canvas, paint, and supplies. The studio also offers private events and parties where guests can enjoy refreshments and paint either a painting from the gallery collection or a one-of-a-kind composition created just for the occasion. Learn more at uncorkedithaca.com.
Downtown Ithaca’s ribbon cuttings are free and open to the public.
